On a short trip to Nijmegen, the oldest city in The Netherlands, I made a few shots with the Nokia Lumia 1020, 808 Pure’View and Sony’s Xperia Z1. Here’s the first of three short comparisons, beginning with the view from the old “Stevenskerk”, which was rebuild after being demolished be a bombardement (by the allies) in 1944 (for more information on Nijmegen see Wikipedia).
To begin with, here are the resized views from all three devices, click on the shots to see them on Flickr. Nokia 808 PureView first (34MP)
Next, the resized shot from the Nokia Lumia 1020 (5MP PureView). You’ll find the high res here.
And the 8MP result from the Sony Xperia Z1.
Now to compare these shots – as I will do with the other shots I kept from Nijmegen – I decided to use the “screenshot” method again. I opened the shots in Picasa, zoomed in to 100% and made a screenshot.
Of course, you’ll see very different results from 5MP, 8MP or 34MP – I just liked the idea to show what you get from these resolutions when seeing these in 100%. If you want to crop your way into the originals, you’re free to do so, they are on Flickr as you’re used to.
I’ll work my way up from 5MP to 34MP, so I’ll start with the Nokia Lumia 1020. Mind you, these screenshots are resized to fit this post, again, click the shot to see the original.
Next, the screenshot of the Xperia Z1 (8MP)
In the 34MP division I have two, of course. First the Nokia 808 PureView:
Last, the Nokia Lumia 1020
Being on a family trip, I forgot to make the 8MP PureView shot with the Nokia 808 (it’s very practical the Lumia 1020 makes two at the same time, although it does take more time).
And I didn’t make the same shot with 20MP on the Xperia Z1 either, since I would have had to choose a 4:3 format. I have some of that as well though, coming up in one of the next “miniature comparisons” – to be continued :-)
