Just a very short update to let you know Nokia has released another update for the Nokia 808 PureView. It was @SteveLitchfield on AllAboutSymbian bringing the good news, noting the next changes (and I quote from his article)
Effectively you can now:
- multi-select photos and share them to Facebook, Flickr or Twitter
- multi-select photos and email them en-masse to specific recipients
- long press a photo from the main gallery thumbnail view, to send, share or delete it
- in the Camera application, access the general Preferences from the info pane in any shooting mode (e.g. Auto or Scenes)
- see at a glance, again in Camera, but in ‘Creative’ mode, a summary of the main changes made for each of the creative presets, along with a (more) handily placed ‘reset’ button
No update? Get it yourself
I didn’t get it on my phone however yesterday, nor checking on Nokia Suite on my PC. So I thought I might have to be very patient once more, but suddenly I saw a tweet from Rv Cuarto, sending me over to his NokiaRevolution, where you can find a direct download link to the exact same files you need (apparantly the files come from Daily Mobile Forum).
So I borrowed the next shot from his site and suggest you to go over there and download and install the files, like I did late yesterday evening. Didn’t have time to work with it yet, but the changes mentioned by Steve give me the impression that this is a small, but important update. Nokia Belle is getting better and better! :-)

An outstanding share! I’ve just forwarded this onto a coworker who was doing a little research on this. And he in fact bought me lunch due to the fact that I discovered it for him… lol. So let me reword this…. Thanks for the meal!! But yeah, thanks for spending the time to discuss this matter here on your website.
There is always the PayPal button on the right side of the page :-)
1. I am a PROUD 808 owner – did a lot of waiting before I could lay my hands on one, though!
2. The camera is “FANTASTIC” to say the least
3. However, sharing photos is a pain, despite having a wi-fi interface the transfer is slow and even on blue tooth, when you select multiple pictures, not sure why the transfer is so slow as to make you want to terminate and do it one at a time anyway. Not worth the effort, you should be able to transfer faster. A suggestion, the resolution need not be the same while transferring, you could ask the user if he wants it transferred as is or in a zipped format, useful since there is no other phone that can do justice to the picture in any case, not even the meagre display resolution of the 808 itself.. Am waiting for a display resolution upgrade to the 808, if possible and am fully with the Symbian OS.. all power to it!!!
Great update. But why not add the possibility to create albums. The N8 had it.
Hi Marc! thank you for this post, im having hard time posting here last time, i should have thank you since last week. :)Cheers!
Has anyone else noticed worse battery life after installing this update?
Since I installed the camera and gallery update, I am getting much worse battery life than usual. Even if the phone sits idle (power saving mode, no connections) it is using up battery very fast.
It seems gallery is running in the background (according to battery monitor). I did not change anything else, so the only reason why I am getting worse battery life is probably this update.
No problems at all here…
Same thing happed to me, I just updated yesterday, like the added features, but after updated the battery drain much faster than before update.
lost gallery and videos after update.. Using “the One”..
wish nokia can add a update of manual controlling shutter speed for 808. thats what 808 lack of.
When I saw camera update, that’s what I was hoping for :)
nokia, we are waiting for it.
Just use the +/- exposure and manually set iso. It controls the shutter speed you just can’t see the speed until after the shot. I can get up to 7 second exposure for night scenes. You can get pretty nice smooth water effects for waterfalls or beaches. ND filter on, iso 50 and exposure set to max.
Thanks for sharing this great news.Btw i didnt get the update myself but did manual install from the links provided.
Ive noticed that even if I restarted my 808 and open the gallery, it doesn’t do a refresh anymore since I dont have any new photos or videos captured. before it does that very often and it sometime it takes a long time to finish. The update really fixed it! :)
my Camera and Gallery doesn’t work after I installed the upgrade, Please help :(
Ensure you install all the files onto your 808. Sounds like some of the upgrades have not been installed.
just did the manual update from nokiarevolution. Indeed it works a treat. The most substantial upgrade is the ability to turn off and on the LED illumination when capturing video. It never really bothered me that you could not control, the LED while recording, but not that it is available, it is just more complete. The additional summary info on top shows all settings configuring options is a nice addon in creative modes.
What is still missing though is a shutter speed or some sort of indicator on how still one has to be to capture an image when selecting manual ISO.
Sorry if I’m misunderstanding you, but Led on/off during video recording is present since the beginning in the 808… At least it us in mine. For the rest, I’ll check for the update :)
“is IS” I meant
I thought that at first too nanilabaig, but before you could turn the LED on or off before you started recording. Once recording had commenced, the LED if on has to stay on, or off has to stay off until you pause or stop the recording.
Now with the new update, you can control the LED while recording, say if going from bright to dark area, and you happen to forget to preset the LED to on first, now you have the option to turn in on while recording without interruption.
Oh, sorry bigs, I misunderstood you, aa I thought. You’re right in that point. Good update, then :)
no worries, as I first thought, that when others mentioned about the new LED feature in the update.
Its great to see Nokia supporting the symbian Nokia 808 platform.
Was really hoping this was the rumoured 12MP Pureview update- now that would have been Christmas for me!!
yes that would be nice, but I would like to see the pureview 8mp mode retained, as I guess I am used to the quality of the 8mp images I am getting from my 808. Also options for more or less noise reduction would be nice. For instance I find ISO 400-1600 in full res mode noise reduction to be way too strong, would rather have a the option to minimize or not have any at all, in the form of an advanced option ;)
There was no rumoured “12mp update”. That was just pictures taken from a CFW.
1 happy 808 user…. :-)
Thanks Marc for sharing! Cheers!
Thanks.

Update is small but great! Just installed on my phone!
I have interface in Latvian language and it’s all there :)
Like that I can send and share multiple images at the same time!
And I love when I can turn on and off LED in video mode!
Excellent to see a new update to the best smartphone in the world, 808:-)
Good job Nokia!!
Just updated my cell from the above link \m/ they have added some much needed and some very welcome additions to make 808 a more complete package, love it :*
How about sending multiple files via bluetooth in gallery?? Is this feature available?? Thats more important for me than the rest :D
Yes!
I’ll wait for the OTA/NokiaSuite for my update. These are updates that has been removed for whatever reason. My Nokia N8 does long presses. Well it did before Belle. Strange.
I hope that Nokia gets rid of the Microsoft deal soon so that we can see Symbian and MeeGo again , even if its in another form maybe (wish).
There are still people who want to use a phone as a phone and not a secondary computer. Android fanboys must have realized that by now – battery life is probably as much or more important than a quad-core CPU. :D ;-)
Agree!
I hope as well Nokia get back to Symbian and Meego again, two of the most innovative OS ever made, no doubt!
I think Nokia also see now the low level they are in, 2-3% market share at smarthones is far away from the 40% we saw for a couple of years ago with Symbian….
Btw: A great update for 808:-)
agree, also if they do keep symbian, please add some sort of push notification system, that way, the phone does not have to continuously pol the server, and hence eat batteries in 3g modes.
In case you didn’t notice, Jollas Sailfish is the evolution of Meego. And its expected to be released this year.
To be honest, as much as I like my 808, Nokia were always their own worst enemy. Some great designers/developers, but with some of the worst, least imaginitive management ever known in the tech arena.
Nokia themselves didn’t know what to do with Symbian. They didn’t know how to deal with Meego. And the same for WP – thats being driven by MS.
I didn’t get these changes in the camera app. Gallery has been updated though:
1) in the Camera application, access the general Preferences from the info pane in any shooting mode (e.g. Auto or Scenes)
2) see at a glance, again in Camera, but in ‘Creative’ mode, a summary of the main changes made for each of the creative presets, along with a (more) handily placed ‘reset’ button
Not that its any problem , but these options should have been made available much before than today.
Also , we need the gallery app to be updated to recognize pics from anywhere in the phone and not just X:\Images folder.
I don’t agree with the idea of having the gallery app searching for photos not in Images or DCIM folder.
possible agree here, as it takes a long time as it is to refresh the gallery post powering on the phone, due to large number of images.
what would be nice is a album feature which was in the older symbian OS which allowed one to add pictures into a selected album which could be made into a slide show. Ideal for showing certain images though HDMI into a big screen.
Having albums would be nice, like you can put images into albums. Folders within “Images” and “100NOKIA” can be turned into albums to have an easier implementation. And have the capability to make slideshows with your own music where you select which album(s) or photo(s) you want included.
For me, searching the whole storage can be annoying just like what Android is doing. I also use my phones as mass storage, and I don’t want my “other pics” to mix with the pics taken with the phone camera in one gallery unless I really want to.
Theres change in video. Now we can turn on/off led while shooting. I found the CAF to be improved.
Nice!!! Didn’t notice this one, thanks for info!
