The Verge has the news we have all been waiting for I guess… They published it today and I will quote it in full.
“Nokia is planning a true PureView Windows Phone, The Verge has learned. Codenamed EOS, sources familiar with Nokia’s plans have revealed that the device will include a similar sensor that’s found on Nokia’s 808 PureView handset. The upgraded sensor for Windows Phone means the EOS will be ranged as a high-end Lumia in the company’s range of devices for 2013. We understand that the EOS will be built using aluminum, rather than the typical polycarbonate found on recent Lumia Windows Phones.”
“AT&T will stock the handset later this year, according to our sources. With an aluminum body and squared edges, the EOS is part of a fresh design cycle for Nokia’s Lumia handsets that focuses on a new look. We understand that the company is planning a Lumia 920 replacement in the form of Catwalk that will also include an aluminum body, and another mid-range device expected to debut in early summer. Nokia is also buildingits own Windows RT tablet that is set to debut in early 2013.”
Now, notice they mention a “similar” sensor as in the Nokia 808 PureView, not necessarily the same. It would surprise me, since the original 41MP sensor is very big – the original PureView phone is thick for a reason To be honest, personally I’m not overwhelmed with the thought of a new aluminium smartphone. Of course, I liked the N8 (and E7) a lot, but we have seen this kind of material is very vulnerable too…
During my visit to Cologne’s Photokina, I’ve already understood it’s going to be extremely exciting, but no-one would suggest anything more than that. Anyway, all the more reason to look forward to the Mobile World Congress (end of February) and everything that will no doubt leak once more before all official announcements.
PS interestingly enough, there’s quite a lot you can find about a Nokia codenamed EOS, like here in 2011 for instance.

EOS = Electro Optical Systems
not some abbrv 4 greek God or so
Nokia rockz
Rohit, it’s a bit of both I guess… http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eos
If this EOS had the same specs as 808. I mean 41mp pureview, transmitter fm, dlna, nfc, rich recording etc then I TAKE IT!!!!
They should call it the Nokia Lumia 909, a homage to the 808 that set the bar so high a year ago.
But 909 is less than 920 ;-)
1010 :-)
Eos is the daughter of Hyperion, a bringer of light, the One Above, Who Travels High Above the Earth and of Theia, The Divine. Her brother was the Sun god Helios and her sister was Selene, the Moon goddess. Her team of horses pull her chariot across the sky and are named in the Odyssey as Firebright and Daybright.

I cannot see how this will surpass the Nokia 808 PureView Hyperion, seeing that Pureview Pro (Phase 1) and PureView Phase 2 won’t be in this same rumored device.
If anything, when Nokia announces something, it will come after 6 months or so. BUT! Since this is a rumor, then most probably they will reveal the technology at MWC 2013 with an alpha or best a beta device, then release it to the market on Q4 2013 at best.
To the Microsoft Lumia 920 – good luck!
stop dreaming wp fanboi and girls
nokia is not that great or capable to put 41mp plus ois in n9 copycat lumia thin body
Not sure if I like this attitude…
ddf is the realist.

So Simple !
If you clock on the link you might notice that this is a direct quotation from the source. “Real PureView” definition is not somethin invented on this site but something The Verge came up with in regards to these rumors.
So take a chill pill and enjoy your pureview technology! :)
Hey, I wouldn’t mind the weight of the thing.. 41MP, Xenon.. BRING IT ON :)
25MP would be plenty for my purposes; 41 would be awesome if they kept it.
But I hope they don’t still preach their usual bs about LED flash being equal to xenon..
Either way, as much as I love Lumias and WP, due to my own experience I’m going to wait for others to use the thing whatever it is for a few months first..
Nokia and the 6~10 month too early “announcements”. Osbourning their current flagship.
L920 is not even available in a lot of the world.
Hm… this is not an “announcement”, in fact. But I see what you mean. In old days, it could take up to 9 months before a new device was finally available. People would wait for it anyway. That has changed for sure. But I think Nokia is catching up quite well. Too bad the 920 is suffering from production problems as it seems. We’ll learn more tomorrow.
Just look at 808 and Lumia. They cant make a Lumia that size . My guess is 25 mp and pixel bining with respectable sensor.
EOS?
Interesting name and not unknown in camera business. If Canon is going to like this?
It´s not going to be the real name, for sure. It’s a codename. I don’t think Canon will start a lawsuit over a leaked codename :-)
I’m really excited!
Interesting. We can only hope. And if the picture quality is better than the 808 and/or it’s combined with OIS this might actually be my first WP.
I really hope they take the accessory aspect into serious consideration (external lenses and filters) as well.
I hope Nokia will combine both pureview technology. I think, that would be the ultimate turnaround for nokia at the end.
if people really care about the greatness of the built-in camera.
I hope not that! Would you image how extremely heavy this mobile will be if they combine both 41MPX sensor and OIS ??
But is it really impossible for WP to handle a camera like this, I think the OS will be a major problem ?
Can’t be much heavier than a real camera with equal picture quality. Plus you’ll get lots and lots extra on top of that (even if you’re not using it as a phone).
